The Call, an exhibition by Holly Herndon and Mat Dryhurst at Serpentine Galleries, offers a striking blend of art, AI, and technology. Upon entering the space, I was immediately enveloped by the sound of a choir emanating from an installation, which set a serene and almost sacred atmosphere. The exhibit centers on AI and data collection as art-making processes, exploring the intersection of technology and creativity. One standout installation allowed visitors to interact by singing into a microphone, with AI transforming their voices into a choir, highlighting the potential of machine collaboration in artistic expression.
The exhibition’s design, dominated by white, black, and gold, created a gothic and holistic environment. It showcased the Explorer and Creator archetypes by pushing the boundaries of traditional art. As an Explorer, the exhibit challenges viewers to rethink the role of AI in creative practices, offering a glimpse into the future of art and technology. As a Creator, it demonstrated the innovative potential of AI, showing how machines can become collaborators rather than just tools in the artistic process.
The experience was thought-provoking, engaging visitors with cutting-edge ideas while exploring the evolution of art in the digital age. In The Call, AI is not just a medium but a co-creator, offering new possibilities for human expression. The exhibition invites curiosity, pushing the boundaries of what we consider art in a world increasingly shaped by technology.
